Check out the following release notes to stay up to date on the latest new features, improvements, and bug fixes.
March 16, 2021
- Introducing the Security tab
- The Security tab is the new hub for enhanced account control. You’ll find the tab on the Account page of your Dashboard. We’ve relocated Enforce Single Sign-on here – and added two great new features that provide advanced levels of security.
- The new Allow Public Link Sharing feature provides additional security for proprietary designs and intellectual property within your account. This control lets you disable the Anyone with the link can view option – and prevent all public link sharing from your account – by just toggling it off.
- Also from the Security tab, you can now create a Domain Allowlist of trusted email domains. Once enabled, only users with emails from the list can be added as team members. However, outside collaborators – Contributors and Guests – can still be added to individual projects.
- Default Text Settings and Custom Styles
- Now, you can quickly set the default text for a wide variety of stencils that include or support text. The new Default Text Settings section appears in the Format Panel when all objects on the page are deselected.
- Our related feature, Custom Styles also helps you stay on-brand and consistent throughout your project. Save a style for any particular stencil type and then, every time you add that stencil to the page, it will adopt your custom style.
- Add text to the Rectangle stencil
- The Rectangle stencil has the best seat in the house, and it's the easiest to grab! Finally, you can use it as a text stencil too – just like most of our other Shapes. Just double-click and start typing!
- Search and discover new templates
- Use our new Template Search to find the right one for your use case. Since we’re publishing new templates all the time, we may already have what you need! If not, just shoot us an email and we’ll add it to our list!
- Create checklists to track your progress
- You can now create checklists on any Note, Annotation, or Text stencil. Make instant to-dos and tick off tasks as you complete them. You’ll find the button right next to bullets and numbered lists in the Quick Format toolbar. Use checklists to free up mental space, sharpen your focus – and keep a record of what you’ve accomplished!
- Move assets between Team and Project libraries
- Both your Image and Template panels have two distinct libraries – one specific to the project you’re working on, and the other for assets shared with your team. Now, we’ve made it easier to manage assets by moving them between those libraries. Just select the images or templates you wish to relocate and click the Move to option from either the right-click Context Menu or the More options menu.
- And, the first time you upload or add an image during a new session, a notification will appear at the bottom of the page to remind you which library – Team or Project – you’ve selected.
- It now takes only a single click to add a stencil to the page.
- When formatting text stencils, you can now use decimals when setting Letter Spacing.
- The Hearts ratings and the Star ratings stencils are now in the Legacy category.
- Images & Templates:
- The filenames in both the Images and Templates libraries are now active links; clicking on any asset’s name will add it to the page.
- To change the name of an asset, use the Rename option in either the right-click Context Menu or the More options menu. These menus are also where you’ll find the option to quickly Refresh the library to see the most recently added assets.
- In the Icon library, you can no longer double-click to replace a selected icon; the new keystroke to replace an icon is Shift + Click.
- Lines & Arrows:
- Whether you use the horizontal or vertical Line stencil, or draw Lines and Arrows using our Quick Draw toolkit, we’ve improved the experience.
- When adjusting lines and arrows with their custom handles, a tooltip now displays both distance and angle.
- Lines snap to the nearest horizontal or vertical axis as you approach them.
- You can draw lines and arrows outward from a center point by holding down Alt/Option while dragging.
- You can add start and end markers to both Lines and Arrows, just as you can with diagram Connectors.
- Your comments now stay open and in place when jumping between View mode and Edit mode, making it easier to read and respond to email notifications.
- Changing the color of selected text in Legacy stencils now works as expected.
- When a user has exceeded their project quota, they now get immediate notification when clicking the New Project button in the Dashboard.
- For Charts, both the legend and value label colors now display on PDF export.
- Typing a ‘+’ or ‘-’ in the cell of a Table no longer triggers zoom.
- The dropdowns in the Sharing window are now aligned.
- You can now save selections as Templates even when one of their elements is locked.
- Fixed a few minor bugs in the Handoff panel.
- When a Contributor is added to a project, their image uploads are now properly calculated as part of that project’s storage quota.
- If Enforce Single Sign-On is enabled, team members now get a clear error message when they try to sign in with their username and password.
- Fixed a bug that caused drop shadows to disappear unpredictably.

- Introducing Handoff
- Click the new Handoff button in the top toolbar and grab Styles and CSS code for objects on the page. This is useful when you’re working on a proof of concept with graphic designers and developers. These specifications can help create a base for further development and provide a quick sense of how page elements will look once implemented.
- New Notes button in the top toolbar
- Don’t wait to annotate! The new Notes button makes it easy for each team member to add ideas, requirements or specifications on the run. Make live collaboration more efficient, annotate super-fast, and make sure that important details don’t fall between the cracks.
- And, keep hitting the Note button to instantly populate your virtual whiteboard with side-by-side Stickies – and get right into brainstorming!
- Eye-catching colors for Sticky Notes
- We’ve made it easier to color-code annotations on your whiteboard or design! Use the Shades button to choose between pastel and new, vibrant tones. And click the handy pin button to toggle stickiness on and off.
- Replace images with just a click
- Select an image on the page, and you’ll find our new Replace Image button in the Contextual Toolbar. Click it to swap in an image from your computer. And, don’t forget, you can also replace an image by dragging and dropping a new one from the library or your computer.
- Custom padding for text stencils
- You can now adjust the padding for most text-stencils bound by a stroke-line: Button, Combo Box, Text Area, Text Input, Date Picker, Stepper, Note.
- When you select any of these objects on the page, the Padding section will automatically appear in the Format panel. Here you can adjust the horizontal and vertical padding for all four sides of the object – or use the icon in the middle to sync the padding settings.
- New toolbar for grouping and alignment
- The Group button has left the top toolbar… and joined our alignment tools in a handy Contextual Toolbar. Just select more than one object to make grouping, ungrouping, and alignment a breeze.
- Want to flatten a group by unpacking nested groups and creating a single-layer? Now, a single keystroke will do it: Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + Alt/Option + G.
- Forced Single Sign On
- In order to provide an additional layer of account security, Moqups admins (team owners) can now require all their team members to use an SSO option, either via Google, OneLogin, or Okta. Enabling the Force SSO Authentication option means that password-only login will be disabled for all team members.
- Language localization expands
- Willkommen, benvenuto, bienvenido! You can now change your interface language to German, Italian, or Spanish. And there are more languages on the way. Look for Russian, French, and Portuguese in the coming months!
- 1000s of icons and an improved library
- We’ve added AWS, Azure, Feather, and Emoji icon kits, and expanded our Material Design, Font Awesome, Hawcons, and Bootstrap sets. New themes, categories, tags, and a speed bump all make it easier and faster to find what you need! Read all about the new Icon Library in our It's Raining Icons! blog post.
- Drag/Drop or Copy/Paste images directly onto the page and they’ll automatically be added to the library.
- You can now Copy/Paste SVGs onto the page.

- Now includes a target button so you can select a target page directly from the Page Tree within the Pages Panel.
- When you click the button, the cursor adopts a target shape until you click on the desired page in the panel.
- When you Export to PNG, the zip file will now reflect the name and folder structure of your project. If you select two or more pages from within a folder, the name of the zip file will match the folder’s name.

- To make page-numbering more consistent, we’ve made a slight change in our protocol: now, by default, the first page in a project is called ‘Page 1’ instead of ‘Page’.
- If you’ve chosen to hide Hotspots (by deselecting the ‘Show hotspots’ option in either the Interactions Panel or the Workspace) those Hotspots will no longer be highlighted by hovering on the page or the Outline Panel.
- Fixed a bug that, under rare circumstances, caused the Pages Panel to be rendered improperly.
- When either dropping or pasting images into an unsaved project – or if the user is not logged in – the appropriate prompt will now appear.
- Fixed a bug in the Viewer that sometimes caused Hotspots to rearrange themselves.
- Fixed a bug that prevented the right-click Context Menu sub-categories from appearing on smaller screens.

- Automatic Paragraph Stencils:
- If you use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl/Cmd + V to paste pure text directly onto the page – either from within the app or from an external source – Moqups will automatically paste the copied text in a new Paragraph stencil.
- ‘Set as Default Style’ in Context Menu:
- Now you can style an Object (or Connector), and then use the right-click Context Menu to set that customization as the Default Style for subsequent objects; it does not affect the style of objects that you’ve already added to the page. This makes it easy to customize a string of objects and/or connectors, and then quickly jump to a new default style, and so on.
- To help our Support Team effectively address your issue, you can now attach relevant files to the Contact Support form.
- Custom Handles for the Process stencil now allow you to round the corners (adjust the border radius).
- Snapping now works to the center of objects as well as to their edges, making it quicker and easier to align objects in staggered formations; this is especially useful with diagrams and flowcharts.
- In Page Settings, you can now adjust the page size using numerical input with Expressions; numerical inputs also work in the Format Panel, letting you quickly adjust any object’s size, position and rotation.
- The ‘Fit page to content’ feature (accessed through the right-click Context Menu) now gives you the option of setting the spacing (padding) around your content.
- Connectors remain attached to their objects, and in their correct positions, when you apply an Align operation to those objects (either from the right-click Context Menu or by using the buttons at the top of the Format Panel).
- Fixed a bug that caused random errors when duplicating a selection of objects that included connectors.

- Templates for Atlassian Server:
- Both our Moqups for Jira Server and Moqups for Confluence Server apps (in the Atlassian Marketplace) now include the Template Library and full template functionality.
- Fit Page To Content:
- Selecting this option from the page’s right-click Context Menu automatically resizes the page to fit the outermost objects.
- Snapping now prioritizes:
- Distance snap over Object snap.
- Snap to page’s Center/Edge over snap to Object.
- You can now drag and resize a page ‘through’ an object ( i.e. when an object sits in front of the page-resize handles).
- The Format Panel now displays the number of objects in a selection; this makes it easy to quickly check your selection before applying any style changes.
- We’ve improved the performance of both the Image and Template Libraries.
- The Dashboard is now faster when loading projects or switching teams.
- Image uploads are quicker, both by drag & drop and by file.
- When you use the Diagram Extenders to add new flowchart stencils to your diagram, the page automatically scrolls to the end of that flow.
- Improved the behavior of Object Groups, both on the page, and in the Outline Panel.
- The Grid stencil now has cell-padding options (in the Grid Style section of the Format Panel).
- Google Web Fonts have been updated.
- Previously, if you had an item selected in Templates Library, and then clicked the ‘Create a new folder’ button, the selected item was accidentally nested within the newly created folder.
- Diagram Connectors are now displayed correctly in both Template Thumbnails and Export to HTML.
- Images dragged and dropped onto the page – from outside the app – are no longer automatically added to the Image Library; this helps you avoid unwanted clutter in the library.
- Fixed several issues with the Smart Connect and Replace Stencil features.
- Fixed a bug that canceled image uploads if the user used drag-&-drop, and then switched pages before the upload was complete.
- Previously, if you expanded a folder (or a series of nested pages) in the Pages Panel, that action accidentally expanded all the folders and nested pages within that Page Tree.
- Using Shift + Clicking on the Zoom Icon automatically zooms in or out to fit the page within the Editor (or Viewer) window; that zoom now also correctly centers the page.
- Fixed a bug that caused the Editor to get stuck in Read Mode if you exited Preview while using the grab cursor (hand) to pan the page.
- Removed object highlights when using the touchpad zoom in Preview mode.

- Supercharged Diagramming Tools:
- Hovering over a Flowchart Diagram Stencil on the page will now reveal arrows on all four sides of that object. Clicking on any arrow will duplicate that object, automatically connect them, and then open the new object’s text-edit mode for quick renaming.
- For lighting-fast, omnidirectional work, Shift + Alt/Option + Arrow keys also adds and connects objects.
- When there is an object immediately adjacent from the one you are ‘extending’, clicking the extenders – or using the keystroke – will automatically connect those two objects.
- You can quickly update and replace any Flowchart Diagram stencils that are already part of a diagram on the page. Just drag the new stencil over an existing one, and drop when the ‘replace’ icon appears.
- Hold down Shift + X to reverse the start and end markers of any connector; this is the same keystroke that reverses the Fill and Stroke style when an object is selected.
- Now, after you style a connector, any subsequent connector you create will automatically adopt that style – until you change it again.
- Previously, if you wanted to mass-style connectors that were already on the page, you had to select them individually; now selecting a group of objects and connectors will reveal the ‘Connector Style’ section of the Format Panel, and let you customize all the selected connectors at once.
- Diagram Extenders:

- Thumbnail performance has been improved in the Pages, Templates, and Images panels.
- Images and Templates Libraries:
- Fixed a bug that prevented drag and drop of SVGs from the Images Library to the page.
- When dragging and dropping an image onto the page, the mouse pointer remains on the upper-left object handle, and is no longer offset.
- Fixed a bug that intermittently prevented the upload of images after they had been selected.

- When dragging multiple templates onto the page, all of them now remain selected.
- In both libraries, when creating a ‘New folder from selection’, a bug permitted the folder to be accidentally relocated during the renaming process.
- Fixed a bug that caused occasional errors when adding images or templates to the page.
- Restored the double-click to add images or templates to the page – but only in Grid View.
- Various performance improvements.
- When using the Background Removal tool, right-clicking on an image now exits that mode and displays the Context Menu.
